John spent 22 years in An Garda Siochana, the Irish Police Force. He served his final seven years in charge of the Security Surveys unit with responsibility for developing an appropriate security response to the risks that posed a threat to Government Institutions, vital installations and high risk persons. On leaving the Garda, John joined Bank of Ireland and worked in the Bank’s Group Security Department for 20 years, serving for over 10 years as head of the Department.
He was Chairman of the Irish Banking Federation’s Bank Security Committee for 15 years and was also a delegate to the European Banking Federation Security Committee. John worked extensively with colleagues in the polices forces of Ireland, Great Britain and Northern Ireland and heads of security for the major banks in Ireland, Great Britain, Northern Ireland and continental Europe.
